Lentink, trains as passion

Friday, December 17, 2021

A hobby that got out of hand.

You can also find personal stories from our employees on the Lentink website. It also talks about personal hobbies. Ruben's passion, which he shares with several colleagues at Lentink, is reported in the editorial below.

Ruben has been traveling through Europe with his father on "train spotting" from an early age. Weekends are planned well in advance in which he goes out with his father, and sometimes accompanied by good acquaintances. Their preference for trains lies in a certain region of Europe and in particular the combination of carriages and locomotives from the epochs III & IV. During these weekends they meet several people who share their passion for the “real trains”.

During these weekends, which are organized by locomotive associations, a pre-planned specific type of locomotive runs, with accompanying freight cars and carriages. The environment is also taken into account as much as possible in order to get a suitable picture. Old stations, people in traditional costume, accompanying cars and trucks are found in the scene. “That way you can shoot a nice 'pic'”, says Ruben. Nowadays he also films from a permanent set-up to be able to view everything in detail at home.

The beautiful pictures that both gentlemen shoot during such a weekend are of such good quality that a report of such a weekend has been recorded many times by magazines with their story and the accompanying photos.

An example of such an editorial can be read below.

Usually this passion is continued at home on a scale, and with Ruben these are trains from the model railway brand Märklin. By the way, his father recently celebrated his 40th anniversary as a proud train driver for the Dutch Railways.
